Back in August or early September we played a UWL Scrimmage with the guys on Black Sunday. Robert Anderson, Black Sunday founder and captain, put together the scrimmage and we played several of the more undeveloped fields at SC Village.
After the game I forced Rob to tell me about his history playing with Black Sunday, the Cannibals, Kwik-Maxx and Team Image. I believe Rob also played with the California Diamonds, but he doesn’t touch on that in this video.
This video will be the first of two. In the second Rob shows off his T shirt collections which he collected playing NPPL events throughout the mid 1990s.
Black Sunday started around 1989-1990, based around the central valley California but didn’t start competing in tournaments until 1993.
During this span, Rob played his first tournaments with the Cannibals in 1991, competing in Excaliber league events.
In 1993, Black Sunday’s first tournament was the 1993 NPPL Lone Star Open in Dallas, Texas.
In 1994 Black Sunday merged with Kwik-Maxx and played in the World Cup in Orlando Florida.
In late 1994 or early 1995 Robert Anderson, Billy Ceranski, Vu Hoang, Mark Gong and Dave Thomas (Opie) out of California joined with the Maliszewski’s out of Maryland to play on Team Image.
Team Image took 1st in the NPPL Amateur Division in 1995 and then went pro at the 1996 NPPL Las Vegas event.
Excited for future events, Rob explains that Black Sunday will add to their already amazing old pro roster with players “from time to time, [including] Mike Paxson, Shane Pestana, Darryl Trent, Todd Adamson, Billy Ceranski, Renick Miller, Mike Bruno, Danny Love, Rocky Cagnoni, Spesh Robinson and a few other surprises.”
This year Black Sunday will be competing in UWL events, NXL events and the Woodsball World Cup.
